CTG & fetal monitoring
Cardiotocography to track fetal heart rate and contractions, booked alongside your antenatal visits and reviewed by the obstetric team.
Book monitoringMonitoring your baby's heart rate and your contractions
A CTG trace records your baby's heart rate and any uterine contractions over a period of monitoring, usually while you sit or recline comfortably with two soft sensors on your abdomen. It is offered alongside the antenatal clinic, so it fits into the same visit as your regular pregnancy checks where possible.
Every trace is reviewed by the obstetric team, who look at the pattern of the heart rate against any contractions recorded and against your overall antenatal picture. If the trace raises a question, it is discussed with you directly and followed up as part of your ongoing antenatal care.
